To convert HEIC to PNG: add the photo to a HEIC converter and download. But first — for most photos, JPG is the better target than PNG. Here's why, and how to do either.

PNG or JPG for an iPhone photo?

HEIC photos are camera images — full of the millions of subtly different colors that photographs have. That's exactly what JPG is built for: it'll be a fraction of the size of a PNG and opens on literally everything. PNG's advantages (lossless, transparency) don't help a photo you just want to view or share. Go with PNG only if you're taking the image into repeated editing and want a lossless working copy. For everyday use, convert HEIC to JPG.

Stop the problem at the source
